Munroe Regional Medical Center: "The above figure on MRSA is incorrect. My father acquired MRSA (pneumonia) from this hospital , although they coded it as community acquired. I will supply as much facts (backed by documentation) as possible as I do not wish to formally name my deceased father (yes, he died within 20 days of his hospitalization at MRMC in 12/14).
Fact 1: He was diagnosed 9 days into his stay at MRMC with MRSA (Pneumonia)
Fact 2: This was diagnosed via bronscopy, a procedure which the nurses were not able to outline necessity for. Upon reading me his informed consent, I was told the procedure was to evaluate fitness for AAA surgery, however, in light of the fact that this was NOT the reason for his hospitalization and he was having serious bronchial issues i.e pneumonia, this sees most unlikely a false reason.
Most Critically Fact 3: His infectious disease doctor coded his illness as unspecified pneumonia but the septum sample from the study taken the same day indicated MRSA* isolation precautions be taken. I plan on pursuing this issue as they should not be allowed to report 0 MRSA cases. When I have documentation to show otherwise. "
